We're off!!!!!....First stop OCMD.

The first stop on our adventure was Castaways Beachfront RV Resort, which is located 10 minutes outside Ocean City, Maryland. We set up at site 278, right on the dog beach with a view of Assateague Island National Park and the Chicoteague Bay. The ammenities include a heated pool, gym, general store( which also sells booze and has pizza delivery service), shuttle busses to Assateague and Ocean City, tiki bar, dog park and beach, golf cart and jet ski rentals and anything else you could possibly want.

We spent the first afternoon getting used to RV living. On this day I learned that not only is Clay a great cook, but he also quite the handyman. Trouble shooting plumbing issues, changing locks, and supporting shelves are also his specialities. I was also relieved to find that our ten loads of dirty laundry leftover from Wildwood fit in our tiny closets. Day 2 at castaways was spent poolside. Around 4 o'clock we began gathering kindling and firewood. After  buying our smores mise, it pissed rain the entire night.

Our final day we cabbed it to OCMD, which suprisingly only cost 15 bucks. Our cabbie was Matt, a really cool local who told us what sites to see, what to definately avoid and where to get great coffee. First stop, Davey Jones Caribbean Pirate bar on the boardwalk. We indulged in a couple pints Dog Fish Head punkin ale, their seasonal draft. Toasty, Malty, Delicious...a great way to start the day.  That afternoon we saw the replicas of the largest white marlin ever caught and a bull head shark caught by a local angler. The inlet has beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean and Chicoteague Bay. After walking for a few hours and having pints for breakfast we decided we needed some coffee. On our cabbies recommendation, we went to his mom's coffee shop. It was decorated with voo doo dolls, and bulldog pictures. Turns out she rescues bulldogs when she's not making coffee and putting spells on people. We ended our day at Harrisons Harbor Restaurant, who prides themselves on using seafood only from local, sustainable farms. The highlights of the meal were the oysters broiled with proscuitto and mushrooms in a light cream sauce and the rockfish (striper bass) topped with at least half a pound of lump crab. We also shared Chicoteague Bay oysters, which were mediocre at best. Their crab bruschetta was good, although the crab was lost after being smothered in provolone cheese and balsamic glaze.

As for Shreddar he is loving life. When he is not sleeping he spends his time on the beach, walking off leash, and playing frisbee. Our stay at Castaways was awesome and we recommed it to anyone looking to vacation in OCMD. Virginia Beach here we come!

  1. Did Awful Arthurs Oyster Bar's menu still have Crab Balls? When you were 8, you could not stop laughing because you did not know that crabs had balls.
